HEARTBEAT (HEARTBEAT SERIES BK#1)

BLURB from Goodreads
Katie and Adam are afraid of love.

She carries the scars of a first kiss gone terribly wrong.

He uproots his life to flee the stinging betrayal of an ex.

When trust is no longer an option, all romance is suspect.

As a young paramedic, Adam rescues people for a living but cannot save himself. Katie, just out of high school, struggles with a tortured home life she cannot escape.

Everything changes when Katie hops into the front seat of Adam's ambulance. Overwhelmed by what they are feeling, neither possess the confidence to make the first move. They walk away from each other, full of regret.

To find her, Adam risks his future. To be with him, Katie sacrifices her security.

Little do they know, what little time they do have, is being measured by a heartbeat that is slowly dying out.

COME WHAT MAY (HEARTBEAT BK#2)

BLURB from Goodreads
Adam is through with love.

He unravels blaming himself for what happened with Katie.

His final moments with her echo through his nightmares.

She owns him body and soul.

To dull the pain, Adam invites a string of women into his bed. Fueled by alcohol and desperation, his meaningless hook-ups provide little comfort. When he closes his eyes, it's Katie he sees.

The only one who helps to ease his guilt somewhat is Jada. But as his new ambulance partner, Adam considers her off limits. He doesn't want to get seriously involved with anyone, much less her. Yet he can't stop fantasizing about the feel of her caramel skin against his.

Despite his intentions, Adam's bond with Jada deepens as they respond to a series of emotional calls. Their mutual attraction becomes undeniable. But how can he give his heart to Jada when it still belongs to Katie?

Jeanz Review

MY INITIAL THOUGHTS
I was definitely looking forward to this next installment, I don't really read all that much chick-lit but I am really enjoying this series. In fact I really feel like getting ahold of Adam and giving him a good shake! Mooning over a "dead girl" who he truly doesn't know whilst overlooking the fantastic female Jada who is right under his nose. I d have an inkling before starting this book that Kelly's baby daddy may turn out to be someone else rather than Adam but we'll see.

MY REVIEW
I was generously given an e-copy by the lovely Faith Sullivan in exchange for my honest review.
So the cover shows a couple getting ready for a romantic looking kiss . . but who are they? Well that depends on where about's you are in the book! It could be Adam & Katie, Brian & Kelly, Brian & Jada, Adam & Jada the options!! I do like the simplistic style cover as it shows the couple which it lets you know there is a romance element to the book and the title and author fonts etc fit perfectly with the rest of the series covers so far.
So we left at the very ending of the last book with Adam meeting the girl he has been dreaming of "his Katie" and she's right there . . .and she's . . alive!
Well its quite a complicated plot, it turns out Kelly has been "playing" quite a lot of the characters in this book but not totally realising that she herself is being played by her boss, the real father of her baby maybe? Or could it really be from that one night stand with Adam? Then again it could just as easily be Brian's as they have been in a sexually active relationship for some time now?
I want to mention that this book is quite a bit steamier than the other but in my opinion there's still plenty of story in the story vs steam content of the plot/book. I really don't mind a bit of steam and spice as long as it is within a plot and within reason and believability for the characters.
So Adam's mystery girl has been alive all along? And Katie does have an over protective over bearing father. Katie is also Kelly's cousin! A coincidence? Kelly seems set on pushing Adam and Katie together even when it is clear he has turned up to their wedding with Jada as his plus one!
So everything's set for the wedding. . . . . the bride and groom are at the altar, the best man,Adam by his brother Brian's side . . .Jada watching from afar after arguing and walking away from Adam . . . the romantic moment arrives and Brian turns to Kelly . . . .and . . . . they don't get married!
In fact Jada and Brian team up to find out why Adam is obsessed with Katie, and what Kelly and her boss have to do with the strange goings on. Adam is still having nightmares and Katie had been dreaming of Adam . . . its as if somehow someone has got into their brains? . . but how? and why?
So the pace of this book was one that kept going there was always something happening to one of the what I would say were the four main characters, Adam, Brian, Kelly and Katie.
To find out what on earth has being going on you'll need to read the book. I did enjoy the book and learned to like the other characters from the boasting, kind of brash brothers Brian and Adam who seem to have a constant one upmanship contest going on. Whom at time I seriously felt like punching on behalf of the lovely females in the book, Jada, who feels drawn to both brothers but knows deep in her heart which one she truly loves. Then there's the timid Katie who eventually throughout the book learns to stand up and literally make the other character listen to her and her opinion. Of course there's also Kelly, Katie's conniving cousin who just seems to wrap everyone around her little finger and come out on top no matter what she has done or been part of. So who gets a happy ever after? Does anyone truly get what they want or deserve?
Near to the end, before the "6 months later chapter there is a steamy chapter, was it necessary? Yes but I personally would have preferred certain parts to be left to the imagination. Don't get me wrong I am not a prude but I found the explicit language and certain body part references somewhat of a turn off. Afterwards looking back to the book I would have rather missed reading that chapter altogether. I did love the 6 months after etc chapters and I think everyone ended up with who they were truly meant to be with. I also liked how the whole death of the Katie Turner look alike was wrapped up too. You'll understand these comments more when you have read the book for yourselves.
So did I enjoy the book? Yes I did even though I felt a little confused at first with the dream/nightmare theories, and then I wanted to shake the brothers until their teeth rattled! Would I recommend the book? Yes, it's a must read if you've already read the other two you need to know what happens next. Would I read another book in the series? Mmm  If there is to be one yes! Would I read other books by Faith Sullivan? I already have and intend to read more of course!

Ena's Review

ENA'S INITIAL THOUGHTS
Well I had expected to slip straight back into the story of this book quite easily. Though in the last book I admit the main character of Adam was irritating me a little.

ENA'S REVIEW
As my daughter informs me to be 100% honest I have to say I didn't actually finish the whole book. The main character Adam's attitude irritated me. I also didn't enjoy the steamier, racier more explicit sex scenes they truly weren't needed. The books and writing of this author Faith Sullivan don't need the steam and "smut".  The steamy scenes were just too explicit for my taste and I'm not a prude! the pace of the book just felt slower to me and I just didn't ever get really into the book.
So did I enjoy the book? It was okay, even though I didn't finish it. Would I recommend it? I wouldn't advise not to read it but I couldn't highly recommend it even though as a whole I did enjoy the actual book series. Would I read another book in the series if there was one? According to my daughter, the book comes to a natural end and she doesn't think that there will be another in this series. Having said that I really don't think I would read another if there was one. I have had enough of Adam as a character. Would I read other Faith Sullivan books? I already have and yes would in the future. I just feel perhaps this series could have ended one book earlier and left us yearning for more rather than getting a little too much of Adam. I hope that makes sense to you all. I aren't saying I hated the book, definitely not, I just couldn't read any more about Adam.
