BLURB from Goodreads
The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pure's. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.MY REVIEW
Again I purchased this kindle format book from Amazon.co.uk as I had heard great things about the series from fellow bloggers, and Spencer Hill Press have sent me deity to review.
I like this cover even more than the previous one, a purple hibiscus flower. The purple hibiscus flower is Rachelle's favourite flower.
I enjoyed this book quite a lot, though, it did remind me a lot of the Vampire Academy. Alexandria and Aiden reminded me a lot of Rose and Dimitri. The whole politics of the Pures, Hematoi and Half-Bloods also reminded me of the Moroi, Strigoi and Dhampirs in Richelle Mead's Series of books.
The book flows really well and is a fast paced, and really easy to read. you quickly slip into the book and become attached to characters in the book. As well as Aiden and Alex, I also love Caleb, he is such a loveable, loyal friend to Alex. He is also kind of her partner in crime sneaking out to go to parties together and hold secret movie nights etc. I love the character of Aiden's brother Deacon as aswell. Deacon is more complex, he has had the same troubles and tragedy as Aiden with the loss of their parents, yet the two siblings apply totally different coping mechanisms to their lives. Aiden becomes a Sentinel to prevent more Pure's being killed by daimons. Where as Deacon drinks to forget the tragedy he went through, its his way of coping, being a laugh and a joker too.
we have much more Aiden in this book, and his gorgeous eyes *swoon* they sound sooo....soo...words cannot express, they sound perfect and so expressive as they change colour with his moods.
Alex has to fight hard to catch up on all the training she missed during her three years with her mother in the mortal world. She was lucky to get the chance to even try to prove herself. People she didn't expect to spoke up on her behalf. Now she must prove the doubters wrong and show she can catch up and eventually make it to become a Sentinel. Her option if she fails is a life of servitude to the Pure's. Alex has a lot of obstacles in her way, some others put in front of her and others are of her own making too. Just because her uncle is dean at the Covenant does not mean that Alex can have an easy time, in fact it is the exact opposite her uncle the dean seems twice as hard on her than any other at the academy.
So did I enjoy it? Yes, Would I read more of the series? I intend to! Would I read more by Jennifer L. Armentrout? Yes, I like her style of writing, she makes its such an easy read.
