AUTHOR INTERVIEW & PROMOTIONAL SPOTLIGHT - INSIDE EVIL BY GEOFFREY WAKELING

What is your name, where were you born and where do you live now?
My name is Geoff Wakeling, I was born in Southend-On-Sea and now live in London.

Did it take a long time to get your first book published?
It took YEARS! I only dabbled with writing for many years, and never got close to completing a full manuscript so that I could start sending it to publishers. I then sent off a few chapters to some agents and got positive feedback, but the process was so long that it seemed as if it would take forever to get anything published. Then, I found self-publishing. It's a great way to get books out there for readers to enjoy. So, even though Inside Evil took years to write, it took only a short while to edit, finish and publish.

What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarise it in less than 20 words what would you say?
My latest book is Inside Evil. In less than 20 words I was say that 'Inside Evil is a paranormal British mystery with an eclectic cast trying to prevent an ancient evil from killing'.
BLURB from Goodreads
Roberta Arlington lives in Ridgewood, a small and sleepy town on the Scottish border, where she is completely content with her life. That is, until she stumbles upon a corpse at the local boarding school and finds that her world starts to unravel into chaos.

As questions begin to emerge as to just how the victim died, Roberta discovers herself caught in a world which she never knew existed. Like a shadow hanging behind Roberta’s own life, another world hovers in the background, waiting silently until trying to break through. Roberta soon discovers that she’ll have to find all the strength she has to survive the path laid before her.

Do you have plans for a new book? Is this book part of a series?
Inside Evil is the first book in a series. I'm currently writing a sequel, The Tower of Souls, which will be released in September 2012 and continue the stories of the residents introduced in Book 1. Whilst Inside Evil primarily takes place in a small and secluded British town called Ridgewood, The Tower of Souls passes into another realm which has been exciting to write about.

Do you have a favourite character from your books? and why are they your favourite?
Inside Evil has three point of views in it, and so each character is special in their own way. However, I love Susan Lingly, mostly because of her journey throughout the book. A wife and mother who has become slightly sidelined in life, she really has to show great strength of character to survive everything that's thrown at her. I love writing her scenes with best friend Martha; they make a great double act.

What do you do to unwind and relax?Do you have a hobby?
I love gardening and conservation. I have a degree in Zoology, so have always been interested in being environmentally aware, and so gardening allows me to create a beautiful patch for fauna and flowers to thrive in. You'll probably note that in my books there's often some very descriptive scenes of nature and creatures...I can't help but let me love of wildlife come across.

Did you have a favourite author as a child?
I LOVED Brian Jacques Redwall series and The Animals of Farthing Wood by Colin Dan. I still love those books today - they were so creative and gripping.

What piece of advice would you give to a new writer?
To sit down and write. The self publishing process is easy, and as long as you go through the process of using editors, cover artists etc, you can end up with a great product. But, don't let those issues overtake you, simply sit down and write what's in your heart first.
