Author: Eleanor Merry

This is a Dead Aware prequel and is about Jay in the tie after FIRE hit and before he met up with Max in the hotel room. Is great to read as a prequel but can be read at any time during the series.
REVIEW
After reading A Zombie Journey and
adoring the character of Jay I immediately wanted to read more about him and
his back story up until where Jay meets Max in the hotel room.
The cover fits well with the rest of
the series covers and it could easily be a scene from within the novella. The
genre’s I have seen listed for this series are Sci-Fi, Zombie Fiction and
Horror. If you are not sure about reading because of the “horror” label, don’t
let it put you off, its not overly gory, it is all well in context with the
plot and story.
The book begins with Jay in his own
home with his parents. To be honest as his father is a bit of a prepper you
would think as a family all they needed to do was lay low and use some of their
provisions until the virus goes away and its safe to go out again. Sure, maybe
they would have to fortify the house a bit from the zombie herd outside but
they should have been safe enough. However, they are not okay and destined to
just wait the virus out when the virus attacks their family. This book tells
you the horrors the teenaged Jay goes through, the awful sights he sees when
devastated he blindly runs from his home.
The writing style makes it really
easy and quick to read. What more can I say, I enjoyed it and answered my
questions of what happened to Jay before he met Max. There are some very
poignant, heart tugging parts in the book and to be honest it felt a bit weird
reading this novella with the current situation with corona virus all around
the world.
To sum up I definitely recommend
reading this series. Yes, there are flesh eating, mindless zombies but there
are also “Dead Aware” zombies. I am looking forward to reading more in this series
and by this author too.
