GENERATION DEAD BY DANIEL WATERS

Generation Dead by Daniel Waters
Phoebe Kendall is a typical kind of Goth girl, with a crush...on a dead guy!
A strange phenomenon is happening all over the country. Some of the teenagers are dying ...only they are not staying dead.....however when they come back to life they are no longer same as before. These teenagers are feared and misunderstood as they try to fit back into society.
The High school at Oakvale try to have a different approach to the "differently biotic" (the new politically correct way to refer to the dead and returned to life teenagers) Some of the students want nothing to do with the "living impaired" (another politically correct term for them) and refuse to take classes or interact with them. There are no laws to protect the living impaired teenagers from the people who want to be rid of them.
Phoebe falls for Tommy Williams who is the leader of the dead kids, no on can believe it, her best friend, margi or her next door neighbour Adam who has known her a long time. Adam has feelings for Phoebe that run much deeper than just the friendship they have. Adam would do anything for phoebe, even protect Tommy from danger.
This is a really different plot concept, the whole teenager dying then coming back again. The way the living impaired trying to integrate with the "normal" community gives all sorts of story opportunities. The book is well written and makes you want to read on to find out what will happen to the characters you have become attached to. I found this series of books quite by accident as Daniel Waters had a short tale in an anthology which I really enjoyed so wanted to read more of the same concept.
