VAMPIRE ACADEMY BY RICHELLE MEAD
St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any old boarding school,it is a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic.Half-human teens are also trained how to protect the vampires there. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a half human, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. Rose and Lissa have been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s. St Vladimirs just happens to be the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .
Rose and Lissa become embroiled in a forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.
This is a good promising start to a series of books called simply Vampire Academy. They are well written and you soon come to know how certain characters will act in different situations. Both rose and Lissa are rebellious, however as Elissa is Moroi royalty she can seem to get away with more than her future bodyguard and lowly Dhampir Rose. Rose is a strong female character who knows how to handle herself in a fight and is such good friends, more like a sister in fact, that she would lay down her life for her.
