EXCERPT

"Stop!" a man shouts. He runs towards us. Two more appear behind him.
Jenna reaches a hand down. "Grab it!"
Colt takes hold and she easily lifts him out. They are all so strong.
"Go up, Sage,” Anthony says. “I've got these guys.”

He's holding the same dagger I'd had in my hand earlier.
"I'm not leaving you alone," I say.
"Three guys is nothing. I'll be fine. Go."
I look up toward where my brother sits waiting for me and then back at Anthony.
"Stop right there and we'll let you live," a guard says. He has a single spike sticking out of his otherwise bald head.
"Don't listen to him Sage," Anthony says. "You're too valuable. Just go before they capture Max again."
This makes me move. I scramble up the ladder. When I'm at the top, I shout down, "Come on! You can make it."
He stares up at me through the narrow opening and smiles. "Change the world," he says just as an invisible blast knocks him to the ground.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW
Rachel McClellan was born and raised in Idaho, a place secretly known for its supernatural creatures. When she's not in her writing lair, she's partying with her husband and four crazy, yet lovable, children. Rachel's love for storytelling began as a child when the moon first possessed the night. For when the lights went out, her imagination painted a whole new world. And what a scary world it was...

Could you tell us a little about Escape To Eden in about 30 words or less?
Centuries into the future, mankind has learned to manipulate their DNA, harnessing only the good genes, like intelligence, strength and height. But discarding what they deemed as “bad” DNA has had dire consequences.

How long did it take you to write Escape To Eden, from the original idea to finishing writing it? About six months.
I love a great Sci-Fi/Dystopian book, what made you decide to write a book in this genre? It’s something I’ve never done before, but always wanted to try. I also thought it would be fun and challenging to come up with a new future for mankind.

If you had to choose to be one of your characters Escape To Eden which would you be? and why?
Jenna, for sure. She’s so sarcastic and tough, but on the inside she’s just little girl who wants to be loved.

How did you come up with the Title and Cover Designs for Escape To Eden? Who designed the Cover of your books?
My publisher actually designed the cover. They took my initial ideas and created something beautiful. I love the DNA strands on the sides and bottom.

Are character names and place names decided after their creation? or do you pick a character/place name and then invent them? How did you come up with characters names and place names in Escape To Eden?
I changed my main character’s name several times throughout the novel until the name Sage finally stuck. As for the names of places, I tried to relate them to whatever their purpose was. For example, Purgatory Island, which sounds sinister, is where Eden is hidden. I wanted a place that meant the exact opposite of what you might envision Eden to be like.

Did you basic plot/plan for Escape To Eden, before you actually began writing it out?
Or did you let the writing flow and see where it took the story? I never start a story unless I know the ending. From there, I’ll come up with a few major plot lines, but other than that, I just go for it!

Is there anything in your Escape To Eden you would change now if you could and what would it be?
It’s too soon to tell! But I’m sure six months down the road, I’ll have regrets about something.
