GUEST POST - SHANNON DUFFY

Music and Writing.

You hear all the time about writers listening to music while writing, right? I know I do, and I think it’s awesome that they can do that. Hey, if it gets your writing muse wide awake, perfect. For me though, I can’t imagine even trying to write with music going. When I write, I need silence. It’s sorta like if you were at the movies and then someone came in with a boom box. When I write, it’s literally like a movie in my mind, so outside distractions couldn’t work.
But! It can be fun to find songs before or after that you think fit a scene—either because of the lyrics in the song, or the rhythm. This I’ve done before in particular for my YA and I love to play those songs over and over. For Gabriel Stone, the Indiana Jones theme song runs through my head because of the adventure in the story.

Thanks for inviting me on your blog today!

~Shannon
