PROMOTIONAL SPOTLIGHT - PULL OF GRAVITY BY CHERIE REICH

BOOK THREE
Pull of Gravity by Cherie Reich
Forthcoming 2012

Book Description: A no-nonsense Earthling corporal, Nike accepts a mission to destroy the winged-people of Cupidis to give her race a chance at a new life.

A spoiled Cupidian prince, Edonys gets whatever he wants until his dying father tells him he must choose a mate and take his rightful place as king.

When Nike’s space cruiser lands upon Cupidis, she’s taken to the royal palace where she crosses paths with Prince Edonys. His arrogance leads her to believe her mission of domination will be easy. Edonys refuses his father’s last request to fall in love, but Nike isn’t anyone. She’s bold and different than any Cupidian female. When he shows her his planet’s delights, Nike and Edonys realize they must discover another way to save their loved ones because it will be easier for an Earthling and a Cupidian to ignore the pull of gravity than the pull of love.

DEFYING GRAVITY BY CHERIE REICH

BLURB from Goodreads

A Futuristic Space Fantasy Novelette

Homesick upon the SS Perseid, Linia, a young linguist, thinks she signed up for a mission of peace, but her crew members have another plan: attack the planet Medusa.

Bored with his dying planet, Alezandros, a space cruiser pilot, joins the Medusan Army in his quest for adventure.

When the SS Perseid clashes with the Medusans’ space cruisers, Alezandros and Linia’s lives intertwine. Sucked through a wormhole, they crash upon a post-apocalyptic Earth and are captured by cannibals. In adjacent cells, Alezandros and Linia cast their differences aside for a common bond: escape. But when romantic feelings emerge between them, they might do the unthinkable because for a Medusan and a Persean to fall in love, it would defy gravity.

MY REVIEW

I would classify this novelette as Sci-Fi. The "people" in this novelette are all different species. Linia is a linguist, she is of the Persean race who has been given her first mission which she thinks is one of peaceful exploration but is she being lied to? There is a crew of ten including Linia on her spaceship.
Alezandros has recently joined the army of his planet. His race is called Medusan's. He is sent to protect Medusan from any attack from the Persean's.
The story see's the Persean linguist Linia and the Medusan army man Alezandros having to join forces when their ships crash and they are taken hostage but mutually hostile forces.
So Linia and Alezandros become closer but, can their relationship survive as Alezandros will not be welcome on Persea and Linia will not be welcome on the Medusan Planet. And even if they solve that problem can they even escape the hostile old earth people that have captured them?
This is quite a short action packed sci-fi novelette. It has inter racial squabbles, betrayal within the races and also has a potential romance. It is quite descriptive but also complex too. I did enjoy reading this and would like to read on through the series to find out what happens to Linia and Alezandros as well as their respective races.
So did I enjoy it? Yes, Would I read more? Yes Would I recommend? Yes,stressing the point that this is a novelette not a full length book.

Available from Amazon.com, and Amazon.co.uk £0.77

( A Novellette is longer than a Short Story but not as long as a Novella )

BITES BY NINFA HAYES

BLURB from Goodreads

"BITES"

DEMONICA
Tonight is the Midwinter Solstice Ball, the most important night in the Daemonic Court's calendar.
This is the night when new disciples are chosen, when demons come out to play, and all bets are off.
As it happens, tonight is also the night I become Queen.

LAST OF THE BLOOD
When the sweet scent reaches me I know I have found what I'm looking for.
My hands reach out in the darkness to the unaware girl.
She's warm and soft and doesn't even get to scream before I'm drinking deeply from her, her struggles too feeble to bother me.
Only the blood counts.
I've never tasted anything like it. Gloriously sweet, thick and strong and full of life.
I drink until the hunger subsides, until the body that I hold so close to me hangs lifelessly in my arms. Only then I see. Only then I recognize it, and the agony ... oh, the agony is more than I can bear.

BITES
Irina is about to become Queen of the Daemonic Court and Damon is on the run from his own nature ... where will their paths take them?
Two short stories that will seduce you with romance, danger, sensuality ... and Vampire bites.

MY REVIEW

I saw this book mentioned on facebook, then looked it up on Amazon and had to buy it for two reasons, 1 to support a fellow blogger who is now also writing and 2 Ireally fancied it from the blurb!
Demonica is about Irina a young girl who lives in Eden, with the other children of Eden. Every year there is a Midwinter Solstice Ball and on that day either a "good" Angel comes to take you to their palace or a "bad" Demon comes to collect you and take you to their palace. So obviously Irina's mother wants her daughter to be taken by the angels so imagine her shock when she answers the door to a Demon. Irina's mother cannot prevent Irina going as it is her that needs to "choose". I won't tell you anymore about the tale only say not everyone that be good/bad is good/bad (that will make sense when you read the book!)
Last Of The Blood I would liken to "Interview with a Vampire" and its very dark and gothic in its atmosphere. Its a rather complicated tale and I don't want to give too much away but a quick gist is that a man is given a choice and chooses to become a vampire, then one day does something he will regret for all his Immortal Vampire Life.

So did I enjoy the two short tales? Yes and to be totally honest I am not usually into the "Interview with a vampire" type dark, gothic tales but I really loved this one. It was well written, you could literally feel the dark atmosphere of the book. The second tale begins lighter but then takes on a darker element which I also enjoyed. Would I read any more by this author? Yes and I think that Demonica could possibly be the start of a series.

Addisyn White thought she had her new life, her after life, all figured out. Granted death had not brought her to the pearly white gates, she hadn’t even left Earth. But death had its perks; she got to live forever with her best friend and her assigned Link of Angels, in a beautiful beach house. Even with the changes she was going through to turn her human body into an angelic one, everything seemed pretty easy. Until a gray winged angel comes into her life, then all the secrets and lies her Link had been keeping start crumbling away, exposing a whole new world of dangers she didn’t even know about.
Now Addisyn must fill in the blanks before things escalate too far. Will she save her Link? Or will she be buried in their secrets forever?

MY REVIEW
I really like the cover of this book and that was what initially attracted me to it. I just love anything with white feathers because of what they represent. I also love the calligraphy style writing on the cover.
I have to be honest, I didn't like how the book was set out. There are no speech marks within the book so it was quite hard to really get absorbed into the book when you were battling to differentiate between the characters speaking and the actual descriptions within the book. There were also some odd typos and the occasional word that was actually missing. I do have to stress that once you get past these, in my opinion, slight negative points the book does draw you in and you get hooked by the storyline and the characters too.
The whole concept of born angels and reborn angels was new to me, though the "forbidden" love aspect of the storyline between Addisyn and Greysan reminded me of the forbidden love between Claudia and Michael in Mary Ting's Crossroads series. The  feel of this book also reminded me a little of Halflings by Heather Burch that I have recently read and also enjoyed.
As Addisyn is a new reborn she is still part human and susceptible to human dangers and illnesses. Greysan, Graham, Everett, Wilheim, and Hunter were all there to help Addisyn in her journey to fully become an angel and protect her from Farran & his followers. The relationship between Addisyn and Hunter is also a new concept, that of companion angels....but then something happens later in the book that questions the whole companion link idea and consequences. The storyline is left in a way that there could definitely be a follow up book 2.
So did I enjoy the book? Once I got past the punctuation issues Yes. Would I recommend this book? Hmm...yes with a warning about the punctuation.Would I read more by this author/more in this series? Oh,Yes.

Available at Amazon.co.uk

PLEASE NOTE: I am assured by the Author, Emmalee Aple, that I was sent the unedited/unfinished version of the book in error, so please take note that the comments above regarding punctuation are in no way a problem in the finished copy of the book that is available from Amazon. Happy Reading!
