AUTHOR INTERVIEW - BIANCA TURETSKY

What is your name, where were you born and where do you live now?
My name is Bianca Turetsky. I was born in Boston, MA and grew up in Fairfield CT. I currently live in Brooklyn.

Did you always want to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?
I did always want to be a writer. I feel very lucky!

Could you summarise a description of The Time-Traveling Fashionista On Board The Titanic in less than 30 words what would you say?
The Time- Traveling Fashionista answers the question: What if a beautiful vintage dress could take you back in time?

What made you decide to choose the Titanic and that era for the Time Traveller Fashionista to travel too?
I’ve always been obsessed with the Titanic since I was a little girl. The opulence, the glamour, the fashion and then the utter tragedy of it makes for such a fascinating story. This was a great opportunity to delve deeper into that moment in history.

Where did you get your background information from for The Time-Traveling Fashionista On Board The Titanic?

There was a Titanic exhibit that serendipitously came through NYC around the time I was writing the book. Also one of my friends was an assistant director on the Titanic movie, and ended up being a huge resource to me. He had this great illustrated book that James Cameron gave to the crew which really helped me get an idea of the layout of the ship, and what it would be like to actually have been a passenger on the boat. From what I would have eaten in the first class dining room, to how I would have spent my free time, to who I would be traveling with. Through these pages and drawings, I really felt like I was there.

Who designed the cover of the book?

Alison Impey at Poppy was in charge of the design, and she did such a great job. The gorgeous illustrations were drawn by an uber-talented fashion illustrator from Barcelona named Sandra Suy.

What can we expect from you in the future? More Time Traveling Fashionista?
Where will the Time Traveling Fashionista travel next? Is this going to be a series of books?

Yes, it will be a series! I just turned in the final proofs for book 2 -- The Time-Traveling Fashionista and the Palace of Marie Antoinette. I am really excited to share that one; it will be out Sept 2012. Louise’s next adventure takes place at Versailles during the French Revolution. It was an incredibly fun story to research, I got to go to France, the fashion capital of the world!
