AUTHOR INTERVIEW - CHRISTY SLOAT

What is your name, where were you born and where do you live now?
My name is Christy Sloat, I was born in Southern California and now live in Southern New Jersey.

Did you always want to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?
I always had a desire to write, but I never thought it would actually happen. I wanted to be a million things as a child, a pediatrician, a paleontologist  the list goes on and on. But for 12 years I worked in the Dental field.

What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarise it in less than 20 words what would you say?
The Brown House (The Visitors Series)
If you like true stories about haunted houses, YA Romance, and curses, then this is the book for you.

Who is your publisher? or do you self publish?
My publisher is Anchor Group. We are a team of Indie publishers. I am so blessed to have them.

Which of your books were easier/harder to write than the others?
Well The Many Lives of Avery Snow certainly took the longest. The Brown House was an easier book to write because I have been hearing the stories of this house for several years from my husband and his family. So it flowed easier.

Where do you get your book plot ideas from?What/Who is your inspiration?
Most of my ideas come from art, music and everyday life. My husband and his stories of growing up in the brown house, really inspired me to write about it. Of course I made my own twist to it.

Do you gift books to readers to do reviews?
Yes I do. I do a lot of giveaways on my author page on FB. I also do gift them for reviewers. Reviewers are a huge help to authors.

Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?
I try not to, but sometimes I sneak a peek. Some make me so elated and others bring me down. But all in all it helps me be a better writer in the end.

How do you come up with the Title and Cover Designs for your book/books?Who designed the Cover of your books?
I try to choose and event that happened in the book and bring it to life on the cover. K.C. Designs has done all of my covers. I obsess about my covers and she knows exactly what I want to do. I have all the covers for all the books in each series already planned. I must have them done in order to focus on the book. I am very art-minded I suppose.

How do you come up with characters names and place names in your books?
I try to think of names that no one else uses. Something unique and unusual. Brylee was a name I heard and thought was so different so I used it.

How do you market/promote your books?
I spend a lot of time promoting my books. I think a lot of authors do not realize how much work it involves. I am constantly doing interviews, blog tours, Facebook, Twitter, Book fairs..you name it I am trying it.

What do you do to unwind and relax?Do you have a hobby?
I love to read. I also crochet. It relaxes me and I like to create cool stuff for friends.

If you could invite three favourite writers to dinner, who would you invite and enjoy chatting with?
I wouldn't mind chatting with Aimee Carter, Cassandra Clare and J.K. Rowling. I think it would be an interesting dinner talking about the different characters they write. We would discuss wizards, greek mythology and Shadowhunters. What fun!
