PROMOTIONAL SPOTLIGHT - BOOKS BY WENDY SCOTT

BLURB from Author

For centuries, guided by the Destiny's Oracle, the Bera-Bera tribe have guarded the secret of the windflowers and kept alive the memory of the banished Cat Goddesses. The High Priest Seraphis covets Pharaoh's throne and his minions scour the desert sands, seeking two ancient artefacts of unrivalled power. If the Raia priesthood acquire the Golden Scarab and the Pyramidion first, then the land of Keymett will be plunged into a regime of terror and persecution, condemning the goddesses into exile forever. The race is on, but how can a small band of pygmies, a tomb robber, and a magically untrained girl on the run from the Ferrasium’s killing arena compete against the might of the Priesthood?

BLURB from Author
A year has passed since Kalli escaped from the Ferrasium, but the High Priest’s stranglehold on Wasset is tightening and his tentacles are extending out to encompass all of Keymett. As Pharaoh’s royal barges sail toward Wasset to celebrate the Jubilee Festival, the High Priest is poised like an arachnid in his nest, waiting to hatch his plans. Kalli must unlock the secrets of the Golden Scarab before all of Keymett falls under the High Priest’s dominion.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW - HANNA PEACH

When did you first consider yourself as a "writer"?
I’m still waiting! Haha. Before he passed away, my writing mentor (who published 21 books in his career) said that he was still waiting for the moment when he felt like a proper “writer”.

Is there a certain Author that influenced you in writing?
So many authors influence me for so many different reasons. But just to name a few… JK Rowling, Cassandra Clare and Erin Morgenstern for their world building. Epic, complex and deep enough to get lost in.

Do you have plans for a new book? Is this book part of a series?
Angelfire is book 1 of a fantasy/paranormal series of 6 planned books called Dark Angel. I can’t wait to write them all so I can share with you what happens!

Do you have a favourite character from your books? and why are they your favourite?
There’s something weirdly fun about trying to understand the motivations and justifications of ‘evil’ characters. I have the most fun with Michael but he is not my favourite character – ugh, some of the things he does is just straight-out creepy. Does this say something about my hidden mental state? Errr, I hope not! Haha.
I also love the RaceKeeper – he is so amoral and self-interested but neither ‘good’ nor ‘bad’. Even I’m never sure whether he’s going to do something to help Alyx or to hinder her. This makes him unpredictable and totally fun to write.

If you had to choose to be one of your characters in your book/books which would you be? and why?
Alyx for sure. She can fly, kick-butt and she gets to play with weapons.

Have you ever based characters on people you know or based events on things that have happened to you?
Haha, Yes! Alyx is her own person but she definitely has some of my (worst and best) traits. And as for Israel… he maaaay have some qualities of some of the men that have touched my life (and my heart) along the way. From little things (the scar across his lip) to big things (Israel’s need to prove himself worthy of Alyx). But as for naming names… I never kiss and tell ;)

What piece of advice would you give to a new writer?
1. Keep writing.
2. Keep reading and learning from the books you love but also from the books you hate.
3. Experiment. Break the rules. But be honest with yourself about what works and what doesn’t.
3 ½. Stop reading this and get back to writing!

PROMOTIONAL SPOTLIGHT - ANGELFIRE BY HANNA PEACH

BLURB from Goodreads
An army of angels walk among us. They have kept us safe and ignorant, so far.

Earthbound for centuries and ruled by the Elders, they have established hidden cities, a society and The Code: obey your Elders, kill all demons, eliminate Rogue-angels, protect the mortals, remain hidden. Their warriors are the ungifted earthborn angels armed with blades and the ‘borrowed magics’ of distilled angel-blood tattoos.

Alyxandria is a young warrior with a fondness for customized knives and illegal night-races. If only she could overcome the taint of her parents who abandoned her to become Rogues.

When Alyx saves Israel, a gifted mortal with a past, she is forbidden to see him again. But she can’t help herself, drawn to him through their Guardian-bond, an ancient and long-forgotten bond; if he dies, she dies.

An encounter with a handsome Rogue leaves Alyx questioning all she has been taught to believe. Alyx begins to dig into the Elders’ secrets. Two thousand years of secrets that begin with the death of the Archangel Raphael. She is not prepared when she uncovers an Elder’s dark plan.

Somewhere on earth is a key to unlock hell. Somewhere on earth are pieces of an amulet that controls Lucifer and his army. Somehow Israel is the link and now both sides are after him. Who can Alyx trust when Good and Evil is no longer clear?

AUTHOR INTERVIEW - S.J. PIERCE

A LITTLE ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Susan James Pierce has a degree in Marketing Management, works for a Fortune 500 company in Atlanta, Georgia, and devotes her precious, spare time to writing Fantasy and Sci-fi novels.

Even though her full-time career has nothing to do with books at all, she has always enjoyed complex story telling with fascinating characters, and has had a penchant for the written word since grade school. As a matter of fact, her only publishing credit to date was a poem she wrote at the age of twelve. Why her love for writing never translated into a career, she can only attribute to 'life happens', but her wish is that she can redirect her career path into something that satisfies her creative inner-self.
“The most important story you will ever write is your own.”  ~Bev Davis, Columnist

THE INTERVIEW

What is your name, where were you born and where do you live now?

My name is Susan James Pierce. I was born, raised, and continue to live in the suburbs of Atlanta, GA. Although I enjoy traveling and dream of visiting many more places to come, I’m a Georgia peach through and through.

Did you always want to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?
No. Though I’ve always enjoyed writing – I had a poem published at the age of 12 and have won contests for essays – I’ve aspired to be everything from a ballerina (I’d danced for many years), to a psychologist, to an interior designer. I’ve even dappled in cake decorating and jewelry making. I didn’t circle around to writing again until about a year or so ago, and my life has been forever changed. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?
Marked for Vengeance (Book One of the Alyx Rayer Chronicles). It’s about a 300 year old angel that was sent to Earth to capture her “Marked” human when summoned.

What genre would you place your books into?
Paranormal Romance/ Urban Fantasy

Do you gift books to readers to do reviews?
Absolutely. Reviews are one of the single most important aspects of a book’s success, especially the first in a series. I always welcome requests for a copy in exchange for a fair and honest review to be posted on their blog, Goodreads, and Amazon.

Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?
Yes. There is always something to be gained from others’ POV, even if the review isn’t a glowing one.

Would you ever ask a reviewer to change their review if it was not all positive about your book/books?
Never. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. What a boring world this would be if we all loved and hated the same things!

What do you do to unwind and relax? Do you have a hobby?
Coincidentally, writing and reading. Nothing beats letting your mind escape into a different world for hours on end.

Did you have a favorite author as a child?
C.S. Lewis. He’s the reason I love to both read and write in the Fantasy genre.

What piece of advice would you give to a new writer?
I’m pretty wet behind the ears myself. But from what I’ve learned so far, my advice could be summed up in two words: perseverance and professionalism. Like many others, this is a tough industry.  You have to work hard to get your book noticed through soliciting reviews, networking, advertising, etc. And if you’re someone who doesn’t have a thick skin and quits easily, you won’t make it. Just remember to push through, be open to criticism to better your writing, and above all, remember why you write in the first place – because you love it!
As far as professionalism goes, you also have to remember that whatever you put out there is a reflection of you whether it’s a remark on your blog or someone else’s, or your response to a review or critic. Always conduct yourself professionally. The internet has a lengthy memory and you’re stamping your “brand” for a long time to come. Nobody wants to work with an author who is ungrateful and attacks others.

PROMOTIONAL SPOTLIGHT - MARKED FOR VENGEANCE - THE ALYX RAYER CHRONICLES BY S.J. PIERCE

BLURB from Goodreads
Alyx Rayer’s existence in Atlanta, the eternally bustling capital of Georgia, is one of routine and blending in among the worker bees. But her ‘normal’ life is actually a façade for a higher calling; she's a three hundred year old soul, encased in a human vessel and sent from the darkness between heaven and Earth to capture her Marked when summoned by her superiors.

During the initial, routine stake-out of her Marked, a dream prophet named Isaac Walsh, Alyx is thrown for an emotional loop when his allure captivates her heart from two rooftops away. The event marks the very instance when her sense of what’s right and what’s wrong is brutally challenged as her contact with him is strictly forbidden.

While already trapped between honor and desire, her emotional struggles are further challenged by a man in a black suit who continually pops up when she least expects it, his presence evoking a strange response from the scar she was branded with at birth. The scar tingles like a warning beacon, alerting her that something is amiss. Because her superiors never told her what this would mean, or much of anything except what to do when they summon, she can only conclude to try and keep her sanity, and her life, from completely shattering to pieces.

This engaging first book of the series is a Paranormal Romance novel interlaced with twists, turns, and thrilling suspense that is sure to satisfy readers of any genre.

May not be suitable for YA.

GUEST POST - SHANNON DUFFY

Music and Writing.

You hear all the time about writers listening to music while writing, right? I know I do, and I think it’s awesome that they can do that. Hey, if it gets your writing muse wide awake, perfect. For me though, I can’t imagine even trying to write with music going. When I write, I need silence. It’s sorta like if you were at the movies and then someone came in with a boom box. When I write, it’s literally like a movie in my mind, so outside distractions couldn’t work.
But! It can be fun to find songs before or after that you think fit a scene—either because of the lyrics in the song, or the rhythm. This I’ve done before in particular for my YA and I love to play those songs over and over. For Gabriel Stone, the Indiana Jones theme song runs through my head because of the adventure in the story.

Thanks for inviting me on your blog today!

~Shannon
