ETERNAL BY J.A. BELFIELD

BLURB from Goodreads
An unmarried woman living in a house of men breeds hearsay and lore. If only the villagers knew the truth.

It’s not Jem Stonehouse’s marital status that brings unwanted strangers to town. Rather, it’s that she is the only female werewolf in existence — a prize to any pack.

Sean Holloway, the love of Jem’s life, has gone to great lengths to protect her. As a new attack becomes imminent, Sean realizes he must take greater measures with Jem’s safety or risk losing her forever.

His first task must be to marry her, but a force greater than the largest werewolf stands in his way.

Her mother.

MY REVIEW
What can I say, I love the Holloway Pack Series. This one is more aimed for adults as there are a few steamy scenes included in this novella. In this novella we learn more of the romantic tale of the original Sean Holloway and Jem Stonehouse's story. It has it's amusing parts where Sean is scared of Jem's mother, but has to be brave and ask permission to marry Jem. Though the way Sean ...er proposes is not the best....he soon puts the misunderstanding right with Jem. They have two ceremonies. I have to admit though I enjoy the first traditional church ceremony it was the binding ceremony that had me sighing and thinking aaaah.
Also in this novella we see the danger that Jem is in as the only female around. Another werewolf comes to town to try and stake a claim on Jem. Initially he tries charming Jem and when that doesn't work he takes a more aggressive approach.....What happens? .......Buy the novella! NO Buy the Series!

DARKNESS & LIGHT BY J.A. BELFIELD

BLURB from Goodreads
Jem Stonehouse, a housewife with a neurotic husband bent on keeping her in line, dreams about werewolves in, what she believes, is a bid to escape boredom.

Sean Holloway is a werewolf, living a charade within the human race, whose mind drifts to a bond he shares with a woman he hasn't met--at least, not in this lifetime.

Apart, the two are safe but live unfulfilled lives.

Together, they'll become prey to rival packs just as they have been for hundreds of years.

When their worlds collide, and not for the first time, instinct takes over. Dreams become reality. Futures are uncertain. To keep history from repeating itself, Sean must teach Jem about his heritage, convince her of her role, and win her love.

Can Jem accept her destiny before it's too late, or is her inner wolf buried too deep to save her future with Sean?

MY REVIEW
Oh Wow! I never thought I would say I had found another series of books as good as the Rachel Vincent Shifter Series, or Dee Tenorio's Resurrection Series or Kelley Armstrong's Women Of The Otherworld Series but The Holloway Pack Series well and truly lives up to their standard and at time surpasses them!
I loved the historical element in the book. It's difficult to say more without giving spoliers which I refuse to do! The same historical element is dealt with in Instinct, so if you have read that you will totally know what I mean!
I thought the relationship between Jem and Peter was very realistic and portrayed really well. The domestic violence was depicted well without being over the top. As someone who has both seen and also experienced domestic violence I can vouch for Jem's behaviour and her feelings being so realistic. I loved the way her friend, Poppy and then of course Sean rescued her. (Where was my "Sean" when I needed one?! )
The relationship between Sean and Jem is *sigh* beautifully written, you feel that they are besotted with each other , that they are soul mates and meant to be together.
The wording in the book and how it is written draws you in, you feel like you are in the midst of the action rather than being a watcher from the sidelines. You really become involved with the book. You certainly don't want to put it down! Twice I found myself reading J. A. Belfield books at 1am in the morning!
I would say *warning* this book is for adults or very mature teens that is down to the domestic violence and the er....bit of bedroom action between Sean and Jem. having said that it really is no more than the teens are watching on tv these days and I do believe teens need to be more educated about such subjects as domestic violence anyway.
One section of the book stands out to me as being true in real life too, I hope J. A. Belfield doesn't mind me sharing it with you all in my review.
"Fate and destiny go hand in hand. It is impossible to change our destiny. Only the path upon which we walk to reach our destination alters. If we should stray from that path, fate will take control and guide us in the right direction."
The above quote fits in with what happens in the book with Jem and Sean but I think it's relevant to the reader in real life also. What a beautiful quote.
I like the cover as it represents the dark and light in Jem's life, as well as her dark night dreaming and her daylight hours.
So did I enjoy the book? A definite Yes! Would I recommend? To the correct age group or maturer teen then yes. Would I read more by J. A. Belfield? Yes there will be more reviews of her books to come for sure!

INSTINCT BY J.A. BELFIELD

BLURB from Goodreads
Werewolf Sean Holloway treats the village marketplace like a sexual buffet, though his charm does little to win over his latest entr e of choice. Whether because of Jem Stonehouse's unique scent, her headstrong nonchalance, or the fact he is forbidden to see her by his pack's rules, Sean wants her. When Jem is nothing but flippant toward his advances, he pursues her with vigour, stealing moments alone with her without a libido-driven agenda. The new and heady experience for him drives their relationship beyond romantic interest, and straight toward love. That is, until Jem learns the truth about Sean's heritage. Knowledge of the existence of werewolves leads to only one outcome: death. In this prequel to Darkness & Light, we are taken back in time, to the very beginning of Jem and Sean's love-across-the-centuries relationship.Did it end there? Or did Sean defy his own pack to save the woman he loves?

MY REVIEW
Instinct by J.A. Belfield is a novella "prequel" and is the beginning of the Holloway Pack Series.

I really loved this novella, its kind of the prequel or the history you need to know for the next books to make total sense.  It's well written to the point you cannot put it down. The descriptions make it possible for you to visualise the surrounding of the characters as well as what the characters look like too.
Its a lovely romance. I love how Sean finally meets his mate and lets say his match with Jem. Their love is forbidden as Sean is a wolf however Jem also comes from a supernatural family in that her mother is a witch.
This book features an old fashioned tale of courtship.
I think you could read this book after Darkness & Light but I am glad I read it first as I think things in Darkness & Light make sense more quickly having read Instinct first.
A beautiful tale.
I also really like the cover which when you have read the novella you know depicts Sean & Gem walking along the lane during Sean's old fashioned courtship of Jem.
I can't wait to read Darkness & Light now!
So did I enjoy it? YES  Would I recommend it? YES Would I read more of this series/by this author? YES/YES

FATED ENCOUNTER BY J.A. BELFIELD

BLURB from Goodreads
One glimpse. That scent. There. Right there. Could it be … her?

The female within Sean Holloway’s dreams is real, and he intends to see her face even if it means hiding behind a women’s lingerie rack to do it.

With curiosity burning too hot for him to ignore, Sean turns an ordinary family errand into the chance of a lifetime only to be interrupted time and again.

In this companion piece to Darkness & Light, see Jem the way Sean saw her for the very first time.

Just how close is Sean willing to get before he’ll take fate into his own hands?

Enough to make the impossible come true … maybe.

MY REVIEW
This is a short mini novella told from Sean's point of view and I really enjoyed reading it. I think it could be read either before or after Darkness & Light because it does not give too much of the story away. So this novella covers Sean's feelings and actions the first time he saw Jem. Which was also the first time he realised his dreams were in fact fate talking to him!
So did I enjoy this mini novella? Yes Would I recommend books by J. A. Belfield? Yes.

GUEST BLOG POST BY GEORGIA CATES

To be or not to be...Dirty, that is.
I have struggled quite a bit with finding my niche in writing. When I began this journey, I knew I wanted to write novels in the young adult genre, but I wasn’t incredibly keen on writing from a teen’s point of view because I thought teens had to behave silly. I thought the only teen I would enjoy reading about was one that behaved like an adult, so why not write about an adult? I was wrong. Going Under was a hoot to write and when I complete The Vampire Agápe Series, I will be returning to the teen scene again because I absolutely loved it. I am convinced it is my niche.
My first book, Blood of Anteros, was written in the style of the young adult genre, but my characters were in their twenties. It received a little criticism by a few reviewers for being too “clean” and I don’t have a problem with that. My latest novel, Going Under, is a young adult novel written from the point of view of two teens. Again, it has received a little criticism from a couple of reviewers for being tame. Again, I don’t have a problem with that. What I’m finding difficult to swallow is that it isn’t teens complaining about the lack of sexual gratification. It’s the “grown-ups” reading the young adult novels that are leaving the feedback about the need for more dirty language and sex.
Going Under didn’t start out incredibly clean. Ultimately, it is about an 18 year-old guy and half of the book is told from his point of view. Some of the things originally in the book were quite realistic to what one could expect from the mind of a teen boy as he looks at a hot girl or gets pissed off at his nemesis. I have to say that it was good stuff, but after I thought about the young girls that would read Going Under, my conscience spoke to me and I couldn’t pollute a great read for an impressionable young girl. Isn’t the world already polluted enough without adding to it?
Going Under is packed with lots of sensuality, so the reader gets plenty of heat without the “bow chicka wow wow” factor. If you need to read the description of hard core sex to consider a book worthy of a 4 or 5 star rating, then buy erotica you dirty ole’ people. Don’t give a great book a poor rating because some unmarried teenagers showed a little restraint.
And with that being said...I have received wonderful reviews and feedback about Going Under (mostly) and I want to thank each and every one of you for your compliments and supportive words. I’ve received many requests for Payton Archer to have her own book. I love Payton and I am considering it. I think she could use her own bad boy, too. I’ve put a poll about Payton’s book on my blog at georiacates.com and if I receive enough feedback to warrant Payton getting her own book, I will gladly write it.

Thanks so much and I hope your next read is a great one!

EXCERPT - GOING UNDER BY GEORGIA CATES

Excerpt Going Under
I watched a cigarette butt fly out of the new guy’s driver’s side window, then his door swung open in front of me, preventing my escape. He stepped out of his truck, looked down at me and grinned as he said, “Pardon me, Princess. I didn’t mean to block your way.”
His voice was velvety smooth, but I didn’t mistake it’s coolness as his tone conveyed his contempt for me. His unmistakable dislike of me immediately raised my hellcat flag because he had nothing to base his aversion on since he didn’t know me.
This was our first time face to face and up close. The other times I saw him was when I stole a few glances during cheerleading practice over the last two weeks during the times I was certain Forbes wasn’t watching me.
I realized he was so much more handsome than I originally thought now that his face mask wasn’t obstructing my view. His hair was as black as I expected, and spikey, and his pale blue eyes were piercing. The contrast of their paleness against his dark hair was almost shocking and I had to force myself to not become lost.
I was angry with him for making assumptions about me, but I was furious with myself for finding him so captivating. I tasted my bitter reaction as it formed on my tongue, but couldn’t stop myself from blurting out, “Asshole.”
He placed his hand over the left side of his chest where his heart would be and said, “I felt that straight through my heart. That’s definitely going to leave a mark.”
I watched him shut his door while he waited for my counterattack and I pushed past him as I said, “Screw you and my name is not Princess. It’s Claire, so if you’re going to insult me, at least have the decency to get my name right.”
“Hmm, I think I’ll stick with Princess. It seems to suit you better,” he said to my back as I walked away.
I couldn’t be certain there weren’t flames coming off the heels of my boots as I practically ran away, but Payton managed to catch up with me and said, “I’m totally disgusted by you, Claire.”
“And why would that be?” I almost yelled.
“That was one of the best displays of underthinking I’ve ever seen. He bested you and I know I taught you better than that. You basically rolled over. How can I call you my best friend when you caved so easily? And by the way, you’ve got something on your ass.”
I spun around to look at the back of my dress as I pulled the skirt part around to look and said, “What is it?”
“Hot New Guy’s eyes.” She died out laughing and said, “Sorry, Claire, but you walked right into that one.”
I narrowed my eyes and pursed my lips as I said, “Maybe you’re the bigger asshole of the two of you. You should definitely be a couple.”
“That lacked creativity and it’s insulting to me as your slander master. We have to work on your comebacks because you are seriously letting me down,” she said, then added, “I wish you could see your face right now. Whatever he just did to you has you clueless. You can’t decide if you should be pissed off at him or hot for him.”
I turned to look at this crazy person I called a bestie standing next to me. “I’m jealous of whatever are you smoking because it has you completely reality challenged.”
“He got it all wrong when he called you Princess. He should have called you Queen of Denial because you’ll never admit what’s going on here,” she accused.
It was just like Payton to draw a conclusion with no real evidence to support her theory. “I have no idea what kind of nonsense you’re talking about.”
“I hope he got plenty of rest last night because his legs are gonna be really tired after he runs through your mind all day,” she laughed and joked, making me livid.
“You must have taken your sleeping pill this morning instead of last night because you are dreaming.”
“When you look back on this moment months from now, don’t forget the one word I’m about to say to you, Claire Deveraux. Foreplay.”
