AUTHOR INTERVIEW
Ann swears she was born with a book in her hands and has never put it down. A
lifelong love of reading has finally culminated in achieving her dream of writing...and publication.
She lives in the beautiful Hunter Valley with her own handsome hero of many years.
Ann has always loved the ups and downs of life in small communities and she shares
this with readers in her rural romances.
Strong sexy heroines with a good dash of sass thrown in feature in her stories. Of
course these women need an equally strong hero. Bring on the outback hero and watch
the passion ignite.
When not writing Ann enjoys reading, gardening, walking her very large dog Hugo and

fighting with her computer.

Did you always want to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?
No, funnily enough I was happy being a reader until one day I woke up with a sentence running through my mind. It wouldn't go away, actually it grew. I had no option but to write it all down and it became three books in the Curse of Kin series I wrote under my YA name Ari Harper.

When did you first consider yourself as a "writer"?
Not until a publisher picked up my first contemporary romance which preceded my YA books. When I subbed it, I had a response within twenty-four hours from three different publishers who wanted it.

Do you work another job as well as your writing work?
Not anymore. Now I write fulltime.

Who is your publisher? or do you self publish?
I started out with a publisher, now I prefer to self publish. It gives me more control over my work which I love.

How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?
Normally around four to six weeks for the first draft. After that, I do another tidy up before sending it to an editor. That process usually takes another week or two and then its ready to go.

What can we expect from you in the future?  ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?
I have plans for two rather steamy series in 2014. One is already with an editor. I also plan on doing another couple of contemporary books as well.

What made you decide to write that genre of book?
I write contemporary (mainly rural) as well as steamy books. For some reason I find they are the plots that roll around in my head. I always listen to the little voices :) I like to read both genre's too.

Do you have a favourite out of the books you have written? If so why is it your favourite?
I'll always have a soft spot for Taming the Outback. It was my first published book and still sells very well.

Do you have a favourite character from your books? and why are they your favourite?
Nearly always my heroines because they are sassy and very independent.

Where do you get your book plot ideas from?What/Who is your inspiration?
They pop into my head at any given time. Normally a name or a character will prod me with a sharp stick on the inside of my skull and keep at it until I start listening. I never make up a story, they tell me. It was something I didn't understand when I first started writing. I would hear other authors talk about listening to their characters and wonder what they were trying to say, now I know.

Do you have a certain routine you have for writing? ie You listen to music, sit in a certain chair?
For sure. I have my headphones and blast P!nk over and over as I write. There is always a pot of herbal tea by the side of my laptop too.

Do you have anybody read your books and give you reviews before you officially release them?ie. Your partner, children, friends, reviewers you know?
I have a small but dedicated Street Team who are wonderful to me.

Do you gift books to readers to do reviews?
Yes, of course. They only need to ask :)

Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?
Yes I do. If someone is taking the time to read and review my books, the least I can do is take the time to see what they said.

Would you ever ask a reviewer to change their review if it was not all positive about your book/books?
No, certainly not! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and my books aren't for everyone.

How do you come up with characters names and place names in your books?
They do it all for me. I have no say in it at all.

Have you ever suffered from a "writer's block"? What did you do to get past the "block"?
I don't believe in writers block. Your brain works 24/7. I don't always like what I write down but I deal with it. Some of it turns out okay, some gets cut but you have to push on.

Have you ever based characters on people you know or based events on things that have happened to you?
No.

Which format of book do you prefer, ebook, hardback, or paperback?
I like them all. eBooks are so easy to take away. I only buy paperbacks now of my very favourite authors because I keep them forever.

Are there any New Authors you are interested in for us to watch out for? and Why should we watch out for them?
Love Abbie Glines, also Deborah Harkness. I can't out either of them down.

What piece of advice would you give to a new writer?
If this is what you want to do, never give up, ever!

Do you or would you ever use a pen name?
I do for YA but Ann B is my real name.

EXCERPT
"I guess I have it coming. It must have been hard keeping this place going on your own after the old man died." Sami latched the fence strainers to the next row of broken wire and started pulling it tight. "Thanks," she murmured when Tibby handed her the pliers.

"Was a bit but it didn't feel right to employ anyone to help me. Out of our hands if you know what I mean until they found you. Young Mason did offer a couple of times to help me if I needed it though. He's a good neighbour to have."

She stood up and wiped a hand over the sweat trickling down her face. "Sounds like such a sweet guy. Funny how I don't really believe any of it after meeting his father."

Tibby coughed loudly and tried to cover his mouth with his hand but Sami saw the big grin covering his face and her stomach did a sudden surge down to her toes. Freaking awesome move Sami, looks like you've done it again.

"Well, I suppose it will be up to me to try and prove Tibby's words true then," a rich smooth voice said from behind her.

She spun around and came face to face with the man she had brushed past coming out of the solicitor's office the other day. Embarrassed she lashed out at him.

"Fuck’s sake, do you always creep up on people?"

"I actually didn't creep up, I casually walked up the rows as I do everyday making no effort to hide my appearance. Sorry if I scared you." He looked down at her with a small lift of his lips letting her know how much she was amusing him.

Sami looked into the liquid chocolate-brown eyes and took a step back. The zing jolting her heart surprised her and the clenching of her stomach scared her. She took stock of the chiselled chin, strong and scattered with a day's dark growth. Her gaze travelled up to his lips and her mouth opened involuntarily. She bit her bottom lip with her teeth to stay the quiver.

"Um, you didn't. Scare me I mean." Sami lifted her gaze to meet his eyes and stepped back further. One man shouldn't be so good looking. "Hi, I'm Sami."
